Sinning Saints

INTRO.

We know we can't avoid sin 1 Jn 1:8

What of those who make it a practice, and never repent?

How does the church deal with such Or should we look the other way and leave it to up to God? DISIPLINE: This measure is only taken to correct impenitent saints.

Not meant for saints who repent 1 Jn 2:1-2 Purpose is for restoring not punishing.


I. WHEN A SAINT REPENTS

a. Brings forgiveness & restoration 1 Jn 1:9

b. Judgment is cancelled 2 Sam 12:13

c. Healing occurs Jam 5:15-16

d. Fellowship is restored Mat 18:15


II. WHEN A SAINT REFUSES TO REPENT

a. The sin must be brought to leadership 1 Jn 1:9

- "the church" refers to leadership 1 Cor 5:3-4

b. Confront & expose the sin Eph 5:11-13

c. Must be exposed publicly 1 Tim 5:20

d. Must be disciplined 1 Cor 5:3-13


III. WHY Discipline?

a. To avoid condemnation with the world 1 Cor 11:32

b. Never to punish or condemn Heb 12:5-6

c. To bring back to a life of holiness Heb 12:10-11
